The 2012 Code Cycle is half way through the process. Approximately 97 changes have already been approved by the Board of Housing and Community Development (BHCD) Codes and Standards Committee. Those changes will be incorporated into the base code documents and will be before the full Board of Housing for consideration at their meeting on May 20, 2013.
DHCD is very appreciative of all the work from our stakeholders during this past year. You have not only attended the workgroup meetings, but many of you have also volunteered for subgroup meetings and have submitted proposed changes for consideration. Numerous organizations representing code officials, design professionals, state agencies, industry associations and others are what makes this process successful.
Below is a tentative schedule for the remainder of the code cycle. Be sure to get updated meeting notices and details at our website at www.dhcd.virginia.gov.
May 20: BHCD/FSB Committee approval of proposed regulations
July 1: Deadline for code changes
August: Final workgroup meeting to vet remaining changes
September 23: Tentative public hearing before the BHCD
December 16: Tentative final approval by BHCD
As of today, we anticipate that the effective date of the 2012 Virginia Codes will be sometime in early to mid 2014.
